RE: Max Sport by R-Vision
We have an R-vision Trail Sport 23 FDS. It is light weight and has a slide out. We have two kids and there is plenty of room. When we camp there is enough room for our son to sleep in the pack-n-play and we can still walk around it. We chose it for the floor plan because of the room. Check out the R-Vision website and look at the floor plan. As far as quality, we have been very happy. We have had the trailer (our first) for 6 months and have been camping in the Smokies twice and Florida once. Nothing has broken, or given us any problems. I of course did caulk around the shower and a few small things, but nothing out of the ordinary. Also we pull it with a Jeep Cherokee. We get 11 miles to the gallon, not bad compared to my friend who gets maybe 8 with his Yukon.
RE: Towing combination
I don't see a problem. I tow a 23ft (3200lb DW) trail sport with a Jeep Cherokee. Loaded, it is probably over 4000. I don't feel as though the trailer is in control, we have the complete hitch set up with the sway attachment just like you explained. The Cherokee's manual lists 5000 lbs max. The inline six has a lot of torque, but your 4.3 liter is probably just as powerful, if not more. I would check the gear ratio on your Jimmy also.
RE: 1st Baby - Need Camping Advice
We just went on our first camping trip and our son who is 2 slept "like a baby" in his pack and play. At home he usually wakes up around 6:30am. While we were camping, he would sleep in until 7 or 8. We were happy with how things worked out. Children are so adaptable to any environment.
RE: How many of you guys are towing with a v6?
We have a '99 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 and tow a 23' 08 Trail Sport. It seems to handle it well. It is a straight 6, but doesn't have the horsepower of some V6s. But is has torque. A 258 ci is a hearty engine. I'll let you know more after we take our first camping trip into the Smokey Mtns next week. I may be hoping for a V-8.
